SAKARTVELO

“A nation is the universality of citizens  speaking the same tongue”

Giuseppe Mazzini

What is a nation?? Is it a mass of millions of people or just a geographic entity which we usually see on a map?? For me it is the mixture of various cultures, traditions and arts through the course of thousands of years. To get an exact idea about a nation outward appearance of its people is not enough. Instead, one should look for other aspects such as its history, arts and struggles which the Nation has had to undergo during the invasions of foreign invaders. How a nation is rich with famous real life characters such as Kings, Queens, Poets, Writers and artists should also be considered when one is curious about a nation.

So friends , today I am going to tell you about my Nation, a country surrounded by majestic Caucasus mountains and abound with scenic places.

My nation is known as SAKARTVELO

Confused???

OK… Just open your Atlas and search for the Black Sea in it. On the eastern side there lies a country surrounded by Turkey, Armenia , Azerbaijan and Russia. You will find a country named Georgia.

YES!!!!

It is my country SAKARTVELO საქართველო ).

a country where KARTVELI people live.

Just for ease of understanding I will use the word “Georgia” in the following part

If you have ever met a person living in mountains, you might have known that they are the most friendly and toughest people. Clear mountain air gives them a robust health and a sense of limitless freedom. Who can be a better friend than one who himself understands the value of freedom!!!

We Kartvelians live our lives in a region surrounded by majestic Caucasus mountains and for us Freedom is most precious thing. Since time immemorial we are struggling and fighting very hard to maintain our sovereignty. Many a time foreign powers tried to invade our territory and at some point of time they got succeeded in conquering our land too. But never could they conquer our free spirit. Edmund Burke very wisely said “ the use of force alone is but temporary. It may subdue for a moment : but it does not remove the necessity of subduing again; and a nation is not governed which is perpetually to be conquered”

The foreign powers must understand this that the Georgian people who are most friendly people are also the same people who love to live with dignity.

The message is very clear

“if you want to be our friend then we will embrace you with open arms  but if you want to make us your slaves then we will fight you till our last breath.”

Friends, in my blogs I will try to show you how Georgia is rich with a beautiful culture, we will explore some interesting aspects which are unknown to the rest of the world. We will talk about Georgian cuisine, Georgian Art, Literature and some famous historical characters like Queen Tamar, Shota Rustaveli , artists like Niko Pirosmani and many others.

Our capital Tbilisi (previously known as Tiflis) is having great significance too. The name Tbilisi derives from Old Georgian t′bilisi (თბილისი), and further from tpili (თბილი, “warm”). The name T′bili or T′bilisi ( “warm place”) was given to the place as here there are many hot water springs. It is a beautiful tourist spot. Even it has some historical significance too. Here Iosif Dzhugashvili (find out who???) studied for some years at a Spiritual Seminary.

Friends, I have great many things to tell you about my country. For us Kartvelians it is not just a country but a living thing which lives through us, speaks through us and breathes through us. We carry its hopes and dreams; and we will shape its destiny.

I have to say “NAKHVAMDIS”(Goodbye) for now..

But we will meet again with some new interesting things…

I would love to know how you liked my Art and your reviews about it are always welcome.
